Special NACCC Honors

Special NACCC Honors for Jones-Hood, Hamby, Simpson

Rev. Dr. Lottie Jones-Hood
Charles F. Rush Award

She inspired us at Detroit in 1995 in worship at her inner-city First Congregational Church. She inspired again at the 45th NACCC Annual Meeting in Cromwell, Connecticut, two years ago. Now we see another side of her ministry in an after school tutoring and enrichment program that serves 40 Detroit children, ages 5-16.

Appropriately, the Rev. Dr. Lottie Jones-Hood received the Charles F. Rush award for working with minority persons in helping them achieve worthwhile social and personal goals. The Rev. Charles Fillmore Rush spent his life dedicated to those same goals.

Laura Hamby
Christian Education Achievement Award

Laura Hamby has devoted much of her life to educating people in the ways of Christ, including being Director of Christian Education at the Congregational Church of Soquel, California.

She oversees church school and youth group activities for both middle and high school, Junior Pioneers for 4th and 5th graders, Vacation Bible School and Adult Bible Studies. She has led missionary teams of youth and adults to the Pan American Institute, Tijuana, Mexico, for almost 20 years. She is the premier Christian educator.

JoAnne Simpson
Donna E. Alexander Award

The Donna Alexander Memorial Award was established to honor a woman who was a lifelong partner in the ministry of NACCC Founder, the Rev. John Alexander. It is fitting that her award goes to JoAnne Simpson, an eminent youth leader in both her church and in the NACCC. She has been a delegate to both NAPF and HOPE meetings, she serves her First Church of Christ, Lynn, Massachusetts, as youth director, helped found the New England Youth Cooperative, and served on the Youth Subcommittee of the NACCC Church Services Commission. She co-directed this year’s highly successful HOPE conference.
