Awards

Beverly Vink Douthett (left), Plymouth Congregational Church, Wichita, Kansas, accepts the Donna E. Alexander Memorial Award on behalf of fellow church member Doris Uhlig.  Kaye Price, First Congregational Church, Spencer, Iowa, and Hanna Wing Hall, First Congregational Church, Lansing, Michigan, received Christian Education Achievement Awards.

Awards Defined

The Donna E. Alexander Memorial Award recognizes a woman who has contributed to the Congregational Way of Life in a positive way. It was established by the Women’s Commission (1996).

The Marion Bradshaw Memorial Award for continuing education. Given to an ordained minister from Maine who is personally committed to Congregationalism.

The Harry R. Butman Fund for Ministry Award is given to a minister with at least 10 years of service to a Congregational Christian Churches church. The award is intended to give a lift or encouragement to his/her ministry.

The Jennette S. Butman Fund for Ministry Award is given to a woman in ministry or a minister’s spouse in recognition of service to the Congregational Christian Church.

The Christian Education Achievement Award recognizes an individual who has contributed in outstanding ways to Christian Education.

The John W. Claxton Memorial Award is an annual award to that Fellow graduating from the CFTS program who best personifies the precepts of CFTS and thereby enhances the quality and effectiveness of the program.

The Jennette Butman Award goes to Kathleen Dole Steece, Shelburne, Massachusetts.

Also winning the Harry R. Butman Award was the Rev. William P. Fillebrown, Chiltonville Congregational Church, Plymouth, Massachusetts.

The John F. Claxton Award went to CFTS graduate Bryan McGookey (right), Plymouth Congregational Church, Plainfield Hills, Michigan. Presenter is the Rev. Dr. Steven Peay, Chairman of CFTS.

The Rev. Stuart R. Merkel (left), Gurnee Community Church, Gurnee, Illinois, was one of two winners of the Harry R. Butman Award. Shown with the Rev. Dr. Jay Terbush, Chairman of the Division for Ministry.

Note: Marion Bradshaw winner, the Rev. Chad Poland, First Congregational Church, Norridgewock, Maine, was not present to receive his award.
