Plymouth Congregational Church, Minneapolis, MN (NACCC with ties to UCC) is a theologically liberal, urban congregation of 2100 members, rooted in the Christian tradition while cultivating an openness to wisdom from other traditions.  We seek a Minister for Children, Youth and Families (CYF) who carries these values to children and youth. The Minister teaches Confirmation and the senior high program, supervises staff who lead children’s educational programs and shares general pastoral duties with four other ministers. Highly competitive package.  Applications preferred by end of February 2003.  For more information, refer to Plymouth’s website at www.plymouth.org, e-mail Executive Assistant at carolt@plymouth.org and/or contact Bonita Janda, Chair, CYF  Search Committee, 1900 Nicollet Avenue, Minneapolis, MN 55403-3789.

VICTORY RIDE — PHASE 2

June 8-29, 2003

This June, Pastor Craig Walker will ride to Milwaukee, 2100 miles in 21 days, to raise funds for phase 2 of the church building program (the sanctuary). In 2000, Pastor Craig Walker finished 3 months of radiation treatment in Atlanta. A year later he celebrated his victory over cancer by riding his bicycle from Twentynine Palms CA to Spokane WA, to attend the Annual Meeting . Now he plans to ride to the Annual Meeting in Milwaukee to raise funds for building the sanctuary.

Phase 1, the fellowship hall is nearing completion.

This 2800 sq. ft. structure is being built entirely by church members. The sanctuary will be located behind the Fellowship Hall, and will also be built by volunteer labor.

Bulletin, Newsletter Contests

The NACCC Communication Services Committee is once again sponsoring a church bulletin contest and a newsletter contest in preparation for the Annual Meeting.

There are two criteria for each: layout and content.

Weekly or special church bulletins are eligible except

  1. those that have preprinted “stock” covers, e.g., with photos on the front and Common Lectionary readings on the back; and
  2. bulletins whose inside pages have been professionally printed by a company outside the church.

The latter also applies to church newsletters.

The deadline for submissions is April 15, 2003. Bulletins and newsletters received after that date will not qualify.

Bulletins should be sent to:

Rev. Douglas Drown
First Congregational Church
P.O. Box 621, 5 Meadow Street
Bingham, ME 04920

Newsletters should be sent to:

Rev. James Eaton
United Congregational Church
87 Broadway
Norwich, CT 06360

Plaques will be presented to the winning entries at the Annual Meeting in Milwaukee next June.

Play Writing Contest

Again this year the Communication Services Committee of the National Association of Congregational Christian Churches will be sponsoring a play contest. We believe that theatre provides a unique and useful tool for communicating the Congregational way. The winning play will be presented as readers’ theatre at the 50th Annual NACCC Meeting in 2004. The winner of the blind judging will receive a plaque and monetary award.
